Dying Green Film Showing

Sustain Floyd and Blue Ridge Geen Burial will host a community screening of the short documentary, Dying Green, on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at 6:00pm at the Floyd Center for the Arts. Dying Green is set in the foothills of  the Appalachians.  This film explores one man’s vision of using green burial to conserve land.  Dr Billy Campbell’s efforts have radically changed our view of burial in the United States. The evening will feature light refreshments, a screening of the acclaimed documentary Dying Green, followed by a panel discussion.

Green burial has advantages from many perspectives, including the fact that it avoids many of the environmental stresses associated with mainstream burial in the US. It can eliminate use toxic chemicals, avoid non-biodegradable materials like concrete vaults and metal caskets, and allow the body to naturally decompose, returning nutrients to the soil. It also is a way to preserve land for native flora and fauna, as well as creating a beautiful and peaceful space for contemplation.
