Willed Body Donor Programs – Giving the Gift of Education – with Tiffany Carpenetti
Have you ever wondered what really happens when someone donates their body to science? In this talk, we will take a behind-the-scenes look at whole body donation through the lens of the Virginia State Anatomical Program. You will learn how donations are used to educate medical students, what steps are taken to ensure each donor is treated with dignity and respect, and how families are supported throughout the process.
We will also talk about the safeguards in place to honor donor wishes and how programs like ours work to maintain the public’s trust.
Whether you’re considering donation yourself or simply want to better understand how the system works, this session will offer open, honest insights into the value of whole body donation for medical education.
Our speaker, Tiffany Carpenetti, is an Associate Professor of Anatomy at Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine. She supervises the Anatomy Lab, working closely with the state donor program, teaching in the first- and second-year medical curriculum, and participating in outreach programs for elementary and high school students. She remains dedicated to honoring donors and educating the public about the donation process and its value.
