Funeral Home & Cemetery Prices

Protecting Your Right to Free & Accurate Information

Funeral and burial costs can be confusing and expensive. To protect your right to free, fair, and accurate information, we periodically survey licensed funeral homes and public cemeteries in our area: in the counties of Montgomery, Roanoke, Giles, Floyd, and Pulaski, Virginia, as well as in the cities of Roanoke, Salem, Bedford and Radford, VA.

The FTC Funeral Rule

These surveys compare prices and services, taken from funeral home General Price Lists (GPL’s) which are mandated by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to be accurate and freely available upon request. To read more about your rights, read our article on the FTC Funeral Rule.

How to Use this Price Survey

Surveys are arranged in alphabetical order by city. Prices were accurate as of May 2026, but are subject to change. Be sure to check with establishments to confirm their current General Price Lists and to clarify the nature of the services listed. Most funeral homes have websites, and many post their GPL’s online, which is indicated by an asterisk (*) beside the funeral home name.

The Basic Fee is mandatory, and includes “funeral planning, securing the necessary permits and copies of death certificates, preparing the notices, sheltering the remains, and coordinating the arrangements with the cemetery, crematory or other third parties.” (Federal Trade Commission).

Immediate Burial and Direct Cremation are listed as the most efficient and least expensive options, and both include the Basic Fee. Other services such as embalming, make-up and dress, hosting a viewing, and conducting a funeral service are not included in the Basic Fee. Review the Funeral Home General Price List (GPL) to make decisions on how to balance the emotional and financial needs of the family.

Price Surveys of Licensed and Municipal Cemeteries in Southwest Virginia

Price surveys for public cemeteries in Montgomery, Roanoke, Giles, Floyd, and Pulaski counties, and the cities of Roanoke, Salem, Bedford and Radford. Church and private facilities are not included.

How to Use This Survey

These surveys compare prices and services, focusing on lowest cost options at each cemetery. There are many other more expensive services available which are not listed here. For example, perpetual care as well as weekend or late afternoon burials are standard services that will incur added costs over the prices listed here. While we recognize that price is not the only consideration, it is a good first place to start when shopping for burial options.

Surveys are arranged by city. Prices were accurate as of May 2024, but are subject to change. If a field is blank, as indicated by the • symbol, the information or service was not available at the time of the survey. Be sure to check with establishments to confirm their current General Price Lists and to clarify the nature of the services listed.

Most but not all cemeteries have websites. Click each cemetery row to visit their website if they have one.
